In 2019, after receiving extensive training and skills from a foreign Helicopter Emergency Medical Service, we established our own helicopter and remote rescue service. Our team quickly put their training into action during the aftermath of Cyclone Idayi in the Eastern highlands of Zimbabwe, where we witnessed severe destruction, injuries, and numerous fatalities. With our helicopter, we successfully rescued over 300 individuals, gaining valuable experience in the process. Since then, we have been actively engaged in conducting HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service) missions.
Our helicopter is a Bell Long Ranger configured to meet HEMS specifications, equipped with the following essential medical equipment:
Adult/Pediatric/Neonatal ventilator
Mechanical devices used to assist or replace spontaneous breathing in different age groups.
Vacuum mattress for immobilization and stabilization
A medical device designed to securely and custom-fit around a patient's body using vacuum technology. It provides rigid support, especially for the spine and limbs, minimizing movement and reducing the risk of further injury.
Spinal care kit for spinal injury management
Designed to facilitate proper spinal immobilization, prevent further injury, and ensure patient comfort during the initial stages of care. This kit is a crucial tool for emergency medical personnel, aligning with established protocols for spinal injury management.
Remote rescue kit for operations in challenging and remote locations
For operations in challenging and remote locations includes specialized tools and equipment for conducting safe rescues. It addresses unique hazards, incorporates communication devices, medical supplies, navigation tools, and environmental protection gear.
Basket stretcher for safe patient transport
A specialized patient transport device designed for safe and secure movement in challenging environments.
Advanced trauma care kit
A specialized medical package designed for prompt and comprehensive treatment of severe injuries and trauma.
ALS drugs (Advanced Life Support)
Medications administered during emergency medical situations to provide advanced medical care, especially in cases of cardiac arrest or other life-threatening conditions.
Defibrillation, cardioversion, 12-lead ECG, pacing, and a comprehensive patient monitoring system
Involve electric shocks to restore heart rhythm, with the former used for life-threatening arrhythmias and the latter for atrial arrhythmias.
Gynecology kit
Essential for comprehensive gynecological examinations, aiding in the early detection of abnormalities and maintaining hygiene during procedures.
Advanced airway management capabilities
Involves specialized techniques and equipment used by healthcare professionals in critical situations.
